Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my workstation is causing fatigue?

Key signs include lower back stiffness that eases when you stand or move; neck and shoulder tension that builds progressively through the afternoon; wrist or forearm discomfort after extended keyboard use; dry or strained eyes by mid-afternoon; and a pronounced energy crash after lunch that makes sustained concentration difficult.

The critical point is that these symptoms are cumulative. A workstation that feels acceptable in the morning may be loading your spine, joints, and visual system in ways that compound over 6–8 hours. By the time discomfort is noticeable, the musculoskeletal load has often been accumulating for months.

What makes a chair genuinely ergonomic?

What actually matters is adjustability matched to your body: seat height (feet flat, thighs parallel to the floor), adjustable lumbar support maintaining your spine's natural curve, seat depth that avoids pressure behind the knees, and armrests that keep your shoulders relaxed.

Is a sit-stand desk worth the investment?

Yes, but only when combined with a structured protocol. Standing occasionally delivers minimal benefit. Alternating between sitting and standing every 30–45 minutes is what reduces musculoskeletal load and sustains afternoon energy.

A BMJ study found sit-stand desks reduced prolonged sitting by 1.2 hours per day and significantly reduced upper back, shoulder, and neck discomfort over 12 weeks.

The pairing matters too. A sit-stand desk combined with screen adjusters (monitor arms) and a size appropriate, adjustable chair delivers the full benefit, not the desk alone. We stock complete bundles and can quote for team rollouts from 5 units.

How should I position my workstation to prevent fatigue?

We understand setting up an existing or brand new workstation can be confusing, even when you have purchased the right products.

For this reason, we have developed a digital Quick Guide that will be made available to you upon purchase. This will include all reference points you need to set up a safe, practical and fatigue-reducing workstation.

Can ergonomic equipment be claimed as a tax deduction in Australia?

Generally yes, subject to ATO conditions.

Individuals working from home can claim ergonomic equipment as a work-related deduction, provided it is used to earn income and is not reimbursed by an employer. Items like chairs, desks, and monitor arms are typically treated as depreciable assets.

Businesses can generally deduct ergonomic equipment fully in the year of purchase under instant asset write-off provisions.

We recommend confirming deductibility with your accountant. ErgoSolv does not provide tax advice.

How quickly will I notice an improvement after setting up my workstation correctly?

Most people notice less end-of-day fatigue within the first week, particularly if their previous setup had obvious issues.

Muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, and lower back typically reduces significantly within 2–6 weeks as your body adapts. Afternoon energy and concentration tend to stabilise around the same time.

Ergonomic equipment reduces ongoing load, it does not accelerate tissue healing. Consult your health practitioner if you are recovering from injury, as this may impact on expectations.

If you are not noticing improvement within 2–3 weeks, contact our team. There may be contributing factors that we would love to help with.

What is the most effective first step for improving ergonomics across a team?

Assess before you buy. The most common mistake is purchasing the same chair or desk for all staff without first identifying individual risk. Ergonomic risk varies significantly between people. For example, a chair that suits a 180cm worker may be wrong for a 158cm colleague at the same desk.

A structured workstation audit identifies specific risks, stratifies staff by priority, and informs targeted spending rather than blanket procurement.

Our Ergo Health Check quiz can be distributed to your entire team via a single link. Each person completes a two-minute assessment and receives a personalised result. You get an aggregate view of fatigue risk across the workforce — no face-to-face assessments required. Contact us to get started.
